At my house in the Chequamegon National Forest southeast of Grand View, Bayfield County, 28 November 2008
I found these two female-type HOARY REDPOLLS foraging on tansy and goldenrod in my yard. They were alone, i.e. not with any Common Redpolls, and provided excellent views for nearly 10 minutes. Among other features, note (1) small and stubby bills, (2) very lightly marked undertail coverts, (3) white, unmarked rumps, (4) reduced and thinnner streaking on the breast and flanks, and (5) relatively pale scapulars and back.
