20081126 - Embrace the Night

view map

Hahaha - it's not a sunset - yipee! As it's always dark when I get home now, I thought I'd make use of it :)

It was a bit of a nightmare though, dark and windy - but not cold! I'd left the camera on mirror-lock-up last night and that and the cable release really threw me - I thought the camera was broken - shock horror!!!
When I'd sorted myself out, set it off for 10 mins, did a manual flash of the grass in the foreground and each tree.

Then, when the 10 mins were up, it did its long-exposure noise reduction thing - something else I must've turned on by accident as it's never done that before!!! So, faced with 10 minutes of it exposing nothing, I put the camera back in the case, packed up the tripod and set off home not having a clue whether or not the pic would be worth looking at. Didn't turn out too bad methinks.

Whilst I was watching, I saw a shooting star - yay :-)))

It's one of your better mistakes.

Wonderful work must try this out for 10 mins!. I had a similar experience with my first long exposure when the noise reduction kicked in and the camera seemed dead! see my effort athttp://www.pbase.com/barry_2718/image/71901568 (voted)

Gosh you gotta light pollution in the valleys... Nice shot, though.

Did it take you 10 mins to do the write up too?? ;-)x

Turned out very well indeed! Interesting to read your explanation...10 minutes...wow. I really should invest in a tripod!

Even though my head knows it's the earth's rotation, my heart likes to think there's a meteor storm approaching. The light above the horizon is beautiful.

It's very nice indeed.
I've spent many nights of my life with film trying to capture shooting stars. Usually Perseids or Geminids. Haven't done it with digital yet, but may one of these times.
Too bad you didn't catch that one you saw here. It would have made a great shot exceptional!

It's great, the sky is great with the star movement.

Could be a scene from War of The Worlds! Nice one Phil, neat little shot.

You are very courageous! If I did that I'd be afraid I'd break the camera. And for your reward you get this work of art.

Hope you made a wish. Reading your blurb was like re-reading 'War and Peace'.
Anyway, I think you got a great shot, love the rain.
