25th June, crop circle!

Many of these ancient structures still survive.
Built up to 5000 years ago by Pictish people,
the landscape around here is dotted with them.
They vary in size, this one is quite small.
Over the centuries, farmers have treated them with respect.
And sometimes, there are superstitions attached to them.
There are myths and legends as to the consequences of what would happen
should anybody be brave enough to remove them...

In America, there's a good chance that this would already be paved over and have a Wal-mart sitting atop it. I noticed this integration of history with modern life when I was briefly in Wales and England a few years back and was impressed. I'm sure not all sites have had as happy a transition to the modern world, but the effort is sure worthwhile. Great shot.

I really love that lush green and the hillside furrows. Just beautiful!

Beautiful the way you've captured the natural (roll of the land in vibrant color), the ancient (stones) and the modern managers (neat lines) of the land all in one simple but very elegant photo. Very well done.

There is mystery associated with these stones..just as Carol so elequontly stated....I myself if lived close by would go out there on a night of a full moon...and what an image that would present itself to be for us as well..hint hint.

Very nice.
Walk gently amongst those circles, you never know who else is there!

Great shot all around! I am fascinated by the mystical aura of crop circles too. The simple green land in the background suggests there's nothing else around, as if we are trasported into another time and place. How great to have so many of these ancient stones around you!!
