30 November - HELP! ERR99!

An old pic from the archives as my 40D is showing the ERR99 code!
I've done everything suggested on various sites - changed the battery,
changed the CF card, cleaned the contacts, changed the lens (using Canon
lenses)... without taking the camera apart don't know what else to do!
Has anyone else had this problem & if so, what did you do?!

It's still under warranty so I think I'll be packaging it up & sending
it off to the service centre to be cleaned & serviced! Good job I
have my old 400D hanging around!

Cream cakes last year!

Canon EOS 40D ,Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
1/60s f/4.0 at 85.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

An unsettling code to see :-( Hope they can get it right for you.

The 400 still does an excellent job with beautiful subjects :-)

ooooh no.... you know what, in the past I've had to return 2 cameras for repair and also having 2 pc's die recently I'm rather scared to use anything. My old EOs is still going strong after 25 years. Good luck, I feel for you.

Nicky, had two friends get that error as well... they had to end up sending their camera in to be serviced after trying everything else suggested on the net. It seems to be a common error with the latest canons... lucky for you yours is stilll under warranty. My friends weren't that lucky. Jv

Superb family pic. As for the camera, throw it at the wall.
That will fix it for sure.

You show great spirit posting a lovely happy portrait like this when you're coping with your Err99. I think I'd have a Miss Miserable face on if that were me! I hope it gets sorted satisfactorily for you soon.

A lovely family portrait!!!

Yeah, these high tech toys can be a curse sometimes. Back in the old film days we had tanks that rolled on forever. Wishing you better luck with your digicam :)

With my ERR99 I had to take the battery out and put it in again and then maybe it would take one picture! They say I need a new shutter plus something else. I'm giving them the go-ahead in the morning to save a little bit of VAT!

And the portrait - you look happy together :)

sorry to hear about the cam problem :(

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. I had a counter error on my 30D (not ERR99) and it would not clear until I downloaded the images from the CF card. Even putting other cards in didn't clear it. Best of luck with it!
