Meanwhile down below, Mike is on the barn floor waist high in wheat chaff. (See previous image) He and a Belgium draft horse mare walk over, around, and through the piled up chaff to compress it down. I’m told this is how it was done for centuries. I’ve never seen it done this way, as in past years they baled the chaff instead of compressing it, and stored it for later use. Mike told me they did it this way because of high moisture content in the wheat. The wheat kernels were taken by wheelbarrow to a storage bin. The dust in the air was terrible.
