Amish kids on a bridge.

Last week I went to Strasburg, Pa. a small town near Lancaster, in the heart Amish country. I drove a Mennonite friend of mine home to visit family. I was driving back roads late in the day taking photos, when I came on this group of Amish children. They were hanging over the edge of this old concrete bridge and I admit I was curious as to what they were doing. I stopped and went over to them and noticed they had ropes from the bridge down into the water. The creek below was running very fast and was muddy from heavy rain earlier in the day, so I thought that they couldn’t possibly be fishing. Watching a while more, I noticed they had stainless steel baskets on the end of the ropes. They told me they were catching balls (Beach balls, tennis balls, sponge balls.) that were washing down the creek from the heave rain runoff. They had caught a few and were after more. Apparently they had done this before, and it was a fun game and a way to acquire some new toys. I smiled a long time after I left them, thinking to myself at how creative and full of joy they are. I was so lucky to see this.
