Nostalgia

Whoever said nostalgia isn't what it used to be is wrong!
A new Facebook page about Dundalk in the '80s has almost a 1,000 'likes' in the space of a few days.
It sent me rummaging to see if I could find any old photos or tickets from gigs which I would have gone to during that time.
One of the few benefits of working on a local paper was that I often got free tickets to gigs.
I came across this ticket and some photos I took when The Boss played Slane in 1985 as well as a guest pass to David Bowie's Glass Spider tour two years later.
I also saw The Stones and Bob Dylan at Slane, but if I'm to be honest I can't remember a lot about the concerts (and no, not because I drank too much!).
In truth, I found those big concerts just too big to be memorable with the musicians appearing as tiny dots on the stage.
It's the gigs in smaller venues I remember - John Martyn, Josh Ritter, Ron Sexsmith, Christy Moore, Moving Hearts and countless Irish bands.

Great memories of the things we did. I wouldn't get withing 25 miles of that now!

I never went to any gigs which had so many people there. I look at the 2nd photo and can only wonder how it didn't turn into a tragedy :-)

That is a LOT of people. Very cool you got to go even if it wasn't the best venue. The photos are great. You were a good photographer even then. V.

these do seem overscale events, and I've been at a few...naughty girl for sneaking in a camera, yet fair play to you as well...you're so right though, the smaller scale events are more enjoyable...caught Dylan once warming up for a tour at a local club, and Jeff Beck himself at another small venue...the countless Irish bands that traipse thpugh Vancouver are inevitably at modest halls...imagine catching Martin Hayes, Paddy Keenan, Lunasa, Sharon Shannon, Altan, Kevin Burke, or Karan Casey at an intimate locale...those are the best concerts, and the most memorable ones too...

I'm amazed that you remember it at all. Weren't you only 1 at the time? 8^>
Yes, it's sometimes difficult to remember things that have happened as the years pass by, which is one reason why we PAD things like this. (Though with my history of PADing it means that most of my winters will be a blur...)
