Our National Animal?

The Irish Wolfhound or stag may officially be our national animals, but a quick glance at the albums of Pbasers who have visited Ireland suggests another contender- the sheep.
I had never thought there was anything special about sheep until I joined Pbase and saw these wooly creatures abounding in the albums of people who had come here on holidays. Of course, I must also plead guilty to taking photos of sheep, especially during
lambing season.
A visit to some local shops selling souvenirs confirmed my suspicions - sheep are our most popular farm animal as far as visitors are concerned.

Don't think you can beat New Zealand when it comes to sheep !! LOL 45 million sheep, 4 million people! :-)) they are photographic creatures.. but oh they run off so quickly, you have to sneak up on them quietly, these guys are really interested in what you are doing. Nice shot.

Australia is the biggest export country of sheep and other cattle,
but somehow I connect sheep with the Irish landscape too!
great capture of them Mairead

Maybe you need an official "wild" animal and "domesticated" too :-)

Sheep from the UK make splendid subjects. As you have shown :-)
Sheep here, at least in Western Australia are rarely photogenic because of the dry dusty conditions, they always look dirty. But they taste ok.

Like John, I'm from Wales and dragons (first) and sheep (second) are our national animal for sure!!! Terrific shot and were I to go home again with my digital I'd be taking lots of sheep shots too!
