Space

I had grand plans for today's TITC. My husband is into astronomy (not to be confused
with astrology) and for Christmas got an impressive beast of a telescope. I was
thinking of taking a picture of it in shilouette against the twilight sky. But when I got home
from work I discovered that a local farmer (not the owner of the sheep that I have been
stalking from time to time) had spread slurry on fields close to our house so I didn't
fancy venturing outdoors more than was absolutely essential.
So here's a shot of a planisphere instead which can be used to track the position
of the stars throughout the year.
We are lucky that there is little light pollution where we live so we enjoy great
views of the sky at night. Twice we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights-
a totally unforgettable sight.

I missed this on the day. An ingenious and clever idea, and very well presented and explained. And I agree with you, I wouldn't have ventured out to enjoy the slurryscented pastures either!

Good fallback image! Alas I'm entirely software based and have Starry Night Enthusiast V5.0; wouldn't photograph quite as well.

Very nice. With a moonless weekend coming up I have plans for a sky shot myself if things stay cloud free around here.

I too have little light pollution. The Norhern Lights for me is a dream. Would love to experience that first-hand some day.

Hmmm, well no chance of me seeing the Northern lights...not even the Southern Lights. I like your choice for space.

I envy your dark skies. The Northern Lights are so awesome! Great image.

Ah, I have a Planisphere like this somewhere too! But its nearly 50 years old! Maybe your husband would like to see a book my Dad has - a diary of stargazing published around 1912!
I've yet to see the Northern Lights - a little jealous of my brother seeing them - from a cockpit of an airliner over Canada!

Superb framing and idea.

Well we can't smell it from a photo... I think you should go out and shoot the 'scope ;o))) This looks very techy and impressive though!

This is a terrific entry for the challenge Mairead! Simply wonderful DOF!
The Northern Lights are amazing ~ we saw them out in the middle of nowhere in the Loire Valley last year.
