Deserted farmhouses are sadly quite common in the Irish
countryside, especially in remote areas. They are reminder of
emigration, bachelor farmers, and, in more recent times, a
desire to leave the past behind.
Strange thing is that in England, the well-heeled would be falling over each other to get a place like this to do up, buying into a piece of that rural idyll (while probably maintaining their city apartment for the working week!). I'd just love to live in a place such as this *all* the time!
it's sad, and yet, it has a certain appeal. there are some of us who loves old, falling-apart buildings. i am one of those. i am very much drawn to this.
So sad, but leaving the past behind could mean a bright future for someone else! Such a cozy little house, in a lovely setting. Beautiful shot, Mairead. V!
It certainly conveys a sign of the times for most farming communities, a sad reflection of the times we live in. Interesting to note the large size of slate used to roof the property.
