Deserted

Deserted farmhouses are sadly quite common in the Irish
countryside, especially in remote areas. They are reminder of
emigration, bachelor farmers, and, in more recent times, a
desire to leave the past behind.

Beautiful and atmospheric image......it's fascinating to imagine what life those walls must have seen in times gone by.

Strange thing is that in England, the well-heeled would be falling over each other to get a place like this to do up, buying into a piece of that rural idyll (while probably maintaining their city apartment for the working week!). I'd just love to live in a place such as this *all* the time!

it's sad, and yet, it has a certain appeal. there are some of us who loves old, falling-apart buildings. i am one of those. i am very much drawn to this.

So sad, but leaving the past behind could mean a bright future for someone else! Such a cozy little house, in a lovely setting. Beautiful shot, Mairead. V!

It certainly conveys a sign of the times for most farming communities, a sad reflection of the times we live in. Interesting to note the large size of slate used to roof the property.

Lovely. Reminds me of the little house in the John Wayne movie that was made in Ireland-"The Quiet One."

That is sad. It looks like a lovely spot to have a cottage or farm.

There is a sadness, someone's beloved home, it must be steeped in history. Such a beautiful little home ...

Someone must have loved this great place a long time ago. Excellent view.

What a pity, it looks beautifully secluded, which probably added to the problem!
