SEPTEMBER 5

Lake Texana Edna, TX

We went fishing today. Took the boat up the Navidad River several miles. This area is pure wilderness. I bet I saw 100,000 birds
of different types. No kidding, the sky was full of egrets, comorants, ducks, ibis, kingfishers, heron and more.
The forest along the river bank was full of hummingbirds visiting the wild morning glories.
Of course, we saw several aligators. We know most of them and have been fishing partners with some of them for 20 years now.
This small youngster is a new one. Our first time meeting was today!

I was born and raised in the North but spent 2.5 years in Homestead Florida with the USAF. I was stunned to find alligators at one end of a swimming hole in a State Park. The locals swim at the other end a few hundred feet from Gators! Not me! We asked the ranger, he said, "The gators stay at their end, the swimmers stay at our end. The only problem we have is kids harassing the Gators who are usually sleeping."

Good nature photo. I presume you were careful not to fall in the water.

How absolutely wonderful - although your area is considerable more wild and rugged, I feel the same about living in la France profonde. So far today, we have seen not a soul - just the birds and their countryside.
