11-SEP-2008 "Almost Black and White"

I've been noticing lately that I had to do a lot of healing of spots that are appearing in the sky on landscape shots which is usually an indicator of a dirty sensor. So for today's challenge I thought I'd take a shot to demonstrate just how dirty my sensor was. This is a color shot of a gray sky with the f stop at 40. Do you think I need to get out the sensor cleaning equipment? :-) That one piece of debris in the upper right looks like a length of rope got in there.

Time to hook it up to the vaccum cleaner.

At F40 you could be seeing the dirt on the skylight filter. Try the same shot at F2.8 or as wide as possible. The dirt pattern shouldn't change if it is on the sensor but will be out of focus if on the filter.

The suggestions all seem to say that you have a problem. This type of problem scares me. Good luck.

Just throw it in the washer but put it on the 'gentle' cycle.

Yeah, it does look to need cleaning! hehe!

This happens with my little point and shoot cam, too. The difference being, it is infinately harder to clean a p&s sensor.
Great idea for the challenge.

wow! although when I have those problems.. it turns out to be dust in the lens - apparently I zoom in&out too fast (sigh...)

Crikey, looks like you need to take a scrubbing brush to it! lol. I did mine only the other day :)

I'd say you need to blow that out a bit!

When I had my 30D I had to clean it about every other week (I changed lenses often). I never did anything more than using the Giottos Rocket bulb blower. It does accumulate!
