Ruby-throated hummingbird at fuschias

At home

A hummingbird spent quite some time feeding on the fuschia flowers, the only reason I bought this hanging basket in the first place - hoping it would attract hummingbirds.

Fantastic photo.. I too bought a fuschia plant but 3 young blue jays plucked it to pieces before I could stop them.

I find it amazing that such tiny, high-energy birds can migrate seasonally so far north. It feels like hummingbirds belong in the tropics. Having said that, I saw one species, the Green-backed Firecrown, at the other end of the Americas, far south in Patagonia (many years ago). What a wonderful addition to your garden - a great success in attracting wildlife. This is a photo to savour.
