Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)

Mer Bleue Conservation Area. This beetle and a dozen or so others, was feeding on Solanum dulcamara. According to Bug Guide, this beetle's food of choice was the wild solanum species and it was confined to COlorado and adjacent states until the introduction of the potato! Now it apparently occurs all over the potato growing regions of NA as well as Europe. It is certainly a handsome beetle though, I think.
