Winter firefly (Ellychnia corrusca)

These fireflies can be found year round, and I have seen them basking on tree trunks on sunny winter days. Unlike a lot of fireflies, they are diurnal and they also do not emit light! On this particular day, I found at least 7 of them. By the way, despite their common name of 'firefly', these insects are beetles, not flies.

Interesting that there are fireflies with no light. This looks almost the same as the ones with light. Great detail. V.
