Firefly with mites

Many insects are afflicted with these tiny red mites, which eventually kill them. Recently I posted a photo of a ladybeetle with two mites. This poor firefly is nearly covered with them. What you can't see, is that under the elytra, there are many more mites on his abdomen.

Étonnante photo, je comprends que certains ne survivent pas à ces mites.
Belle et intéressante découverte.

Aside from what the mites are doing, this is a fine photograph with excellent detail. Good work, Christine! V

Unpleasant for the firefly, but I guess the mites are doing well. The colour contrasts make for an excellent photo to go with the ecological story, Christine.

That is horrible. Sometimes Nature is very cruel. Outstanding shot, Christine. ~
