This gorgeous little (about 5 mm) golden creature is a Chrysomelid (leaf-eating beetle). When alarmed it turns red! I saw that once and took a few photos, but they are quite poor, unfortunately. These beetles, whether red or golden, are exceptionally shiny and when seen on a leaf they truly look like little drops of pure gold! They apparently feed mainly on the leaves of plants in the Convolvulus family.
