How rich of a symbol! I can't be absolutely positive on this, but I don't think that the stock market in Paris has a French flag on it. Did the traders hope that the government was going to "save" them? Are they ghost now, nowhere to be found, now that the mess is there? Extremely eloquent image, Jenene!

Love the symbolism here, with Wall Street dragging the whole country through the wringer...there are more shadowy characters inside than out!

Looks like the 'official holders' of the Stars and Stripes are attemptong to hide all the bad guys inside...

Thanks Phil. This morning I saw a photo on the front page of the LA Times showing a protest march in front of the Exchange reminding me of photos I had taken in May. When I made this image my thinking ran along the lines of trying to convey the contrasting lack of activity outside of a building that teems with it inside - therefore the vacant chairs and 'ghosts' to accentuate that emptiness. Your comment underscores the reason I decided to post it today.

I like the way you use flat, desaturated color here, Jenene, weakening the vivid primary colors of the flag in the process. Your image expresses the national mood today. The blurred figures and empty tables carry it further. A tenuous exchange, indeed. The image is surreal, and provokes thought. Wall street may still hide behind the flag, but the red, white, and blue cosmetics can't hide the anxiety, fear, and pain its decisions have caused. The deluge of flags can also be seen as symbolizing the looming impact of pending massive government legislation regarding the national economy.
