June 23, 2016

Our first stop today was at the immense Toyota manufacturing plant in Georgetown. We have toured a number of plants. I am always in awe of how they can conceive of the designs, parts and processes to put together a big machine. Our tour took us through everything except the paint shop. Everything seemed to be moving along tickety boo. They were going to manufacture 2000 cars that day.

Afterward it was off to the Kentucky Horse Park. We spent about five hours there. I just have no interest in horses, but Ginny does. We went to a number of "shows" where they paraded horses around with lots of commentary. We saw a retired Kentucky Derby winner, Funny Cide. There were two museums which were quite well done. There was also an exhibit that included lots of Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes and Triple Crown trophies. Very impressive. Today's picture is of two Belgians. Ginny is Belgian and the horse is a Belgian. The other person is a nice youngster who was interning for the summer at the park. Anyway, the Horse's name was Jace. The excitement never ends when we are on a road trip.

They have two shifts.
The shifts start at 12 hour intervals.
They work 8 hours but get overtime to meet quota.

2000 per day is 250 cars per hour in an 8-hour day,
125 cars per hour in a 16-hour day, and
62 cars per hour in a 24-hour day. I would guess
the factory has three shifts.
