_MG_1467 Not quite sunset

Experimenting with Scott Kelby's secret of shooting sunsets. This wasn't a spectacularly colored sunset, but I wanted to try the method to see if the light area would not be overexposed if I followed Kelby's instructions: "...aim just above the setting sun itself (but make sure you can't see the sun itself through your viewfinder), then hold your shutter button halfway down, which tells the camera to set the exposure for just what it sees in the viewfinder right now. This gives you a perfect sunset exposure, but don't let go of that shutter button quite yet (keep it held down), then you can move your camera and recompose the shot as you'd like it to look. By keeping that button held down, you've locked in that perfect exposure, and once everything looks good to you, just press the shutter button down the rest of the way to take the shot." To that I would add to use manual focus on the area you will want to be in focus after you've recomposed.

Beautiful shot. I have Scott Kelby's Lightroom book; very helpful. I recently purchased a Canon XSi and am in the market for a lens. The 17-55 just may be the one.

I hope I can remember this technique, it worked quite well!

Turned out quite nicely. The sky is quite moody and dramatic just the same.
