12 October - Breaking compositional rules

You can buy a PRINT of this photo HERE

Breaking the compositional rules... sorry probably
the most predictable way to break them by centering
your subject! I had in mind all sorts of great
perspective ideas involving buildings but unfortunately
there aren't many buildings in my back garden and that's
where I've been today... :o/

That's all from me folks till next Tuesday - I'm off
for a long, relaxing (child free!) weekend in sunny Spain
with some friends! See you next Tuesday & wishing you
a great weekend :o))

And here's the ones that ended up in my PAD rejects gallery:

I have always liked this kind of really simple but still so beautiful photos.
It's not so easy to make simple subject look good. You have done it =)

Beautiful!

Who care about rules! This is lovely

Marvelous work Nicky. Actually the 'Rule of Thirds' is more a suggestion anyway. :) Sometimes the proper composition is to center the subject, and the proper placement of the horizon is dead center. As Ansel Adams observed, "There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs."

Fresh as a daisy. A striking image!

Centering means I don't have to scroll, so keep on breaking the rule !! :>)
Eckhart Derschmidt12-Oct-2006 20:12
Like the enigmatic pov - you look on the flower from above, but the background is sky nevertheless. Well done!
Jannik Lindquist12-Oct-2006 20:08
IMO, this just goes to show that it is easy to break conventions - but hard to break the psychological rules that make a picture work :-) GMV
Ric Yates12-Oct-2006 20:07
Great shot, crop it to sort out the composition and it's excellent! :-)

This challenge isn't for you.
I don't think you could seriously break the rules, even if you used a hammer and chisel :^)
