18th - Swimming Lesson

Cheltenham, Glos.

This is what happens when you let your D40 go for a swim in the Pacific Ocean...cack everywhere, buttons jammed with sand and inoperable, small seaborne animals milling around the mirror box, and a completely dead body...deader than a run-over dead thing with no breath....

So today's swimming lesson is this - if you have to paddle in the sea, wear your camera around your neck, not slung over your shoulder where it could fall off...into the waves...to be ruined...along with the lens...that lovely 10-20mm Sigma (sob!)

other sizes: small medium large original auto

OMG! I shall drink a toast to the 40 and the Sigma, later today...and recall some of the fine pictures they made.

Sad story, but good lesson for everybody.

Titanic loss.
Cindi Smith19-Aug-2010 03:06
That just sucks. I've lost an expensive lens by dropping it but had insurance. Hope you have it too!
Stephanie18-Aug-2010 23:39
What a shame Doug! They just don't make 'em like they used to.........
Have fun with your new toy! :0))
Lee G18-Aug-2010 23:37
Ouch, may your new D300 serve you well and find lots of fun things for you!
:O)
Glenn Dean (Vatorman)18-Aug-2010 22:52
Sorry for your loss; may your luck change with the 3000.

What a way to go!
Back in '82 I had to take my camera in for quick repair in Luzern, Switzerland because it had moisture in it (we had been camping near a lake). Since then, I have always been quite wary of my ever-expensive cameras getting wet!
Phillip Normanton18-Aug-2010 21:37
Oooooh, the poor thing. Still, a week in a bucket of rice and a good old clean out might help :o) Ah, I was forgetting, cameras are all pootery now, not made of such stern stuff :o(
Bill Warren18-Aug-2010 21:24
Oh my oh my. I do dumb stuff like this too often. My Sigma 10-20 has a crack on the top depth of field window. Glad you had 2 cameras.
Kevin Chester18-Aug-2010 21:24
Don't know what to say? Travel insurance?
Walter Otto Koenig18-Aug-2010 21:21
Tony is right, insurance could have covered this. Like I said to you before, I'd take it apart now. By the way I have a photo of you signing the credit card slip of its replacement. Do you want me to post it? :)

Nightmare Doug! ... dig out that home insurance policy ... accidental cover
Colin Storey18-Aug-2010 21:06
Bad luck, real shame about the lens, it's a great piece of kit.
Johnny JAG18-Aug-2010 20:51
That's not good!
Mairéad18-Aug-2010 20:16
