Animal welfare rated

Maybe this is common these days, but I must admit I had never before seen “Animal Welfare Rated” chicken, or any other meat, for that matter, although I do think it’s good to work against cruelty to animals. Taken at Whole Foods in Arlington.

I’m running out of local pictures, and now that my one-day weekend is almost here, the weather has turned terrible! Guess it’s back to Saudi Arabia for a while…

Very unusual to see chicken wings and animal welfare together. Nicely detailed. V

Neat shot of this rather strange advertisement for chicken wings - would be interesting to know who the Animal Welfare group are :) V

Does it mean free range chicken, not caged.

The rating is something that is increasingly used and discussed and it is about time. As a life-long vegetarian I don't eat meat, but I think that animals raised for food need to have at least a good life if they are going to be killed later! V

All we need to do is taste them!

it would be nice if there was a recognised rating system for farmed animals; in UK the term is subject to the usual abuse of re-inventing language

Never saw that before!

I'm not sure the chicken would think it had scored very highly after been killed to be eaten. But I get the point!

Very clear capture with great colors. Animal welfare rated is a great idea. V

Caged chickens, 20 to the square feet or ... free range! There are so many differences in how we keep the animals ... some cows never ever go outside and never ever run free in a filed, others spend their lives in the meadows, same for the pigs etc. That's probably what that refers to!

This is different!

I've never seen that before, either, but agree that it's important to know that the animals were treated humanely. V
