Rana El Nemr’s series of photographs taken in the Cairo subway, “The Metro,” records the rapid changes being experienced by middle-class urban Egyptians. “A view of the blue and white exterior of the women’s car shows two subway riders within, seen from the back. The pairing of their black-and-white abayas, each framed by a window of the closed subway doors, demonstrates El Nemr’s eye for graceful, asymmetrically balanced compositions.”
Unfortunately there were lots of reflections in almost all the pictures, which made them difficult to photograph, although non-flash photography was encouraged by the museum.
