'Today’s Life and War'

In this image from the “Today’s Life and War” series by Gohar Dashti of Iran, “A breakfast scene includes a military tank whose gun is aimed alarmingly at the young man perched over his teacup. The couple begins their day over a typically Iranian meal, as the young woman speaks on her cell phone. Army greens, blues, and browns dominate the image, while the pink edging of the woman’s headscarf and the delicate patterns of the tablecloth create tension with the looming presence of the tank.”

Unfortunately there were lots of reflections in almost all the pictures, which made them difficult to photograph, although non-flash photography was encouraged by the museum.

Another powerful image. We take for granted that most of us only see war on a TV screen.

A disturbing picture, but good photographs tell a story and this does a great job of that.
