Clutter

view map

This is on top of the big mud hill at the ruins of the old city. These are touted as the "Mummies" of Mut. The hill is basically a cemetary where bones
are scattered everywhere, human and other animals. The tombs are not only wide open, but starting to deteriorate to the point of having skulls rolling into the streets below,
where you can see the kids kicking them and using them as soccer (non USA - football) balls.
Can't really blame the kids though, it is a very, very poor city and the families really can't afford actual "balls".

The other thing about these tombs, if you look closely at the photo, is that you can see cloth from not too old shrouds... as well as having some meat still on certain bones in the cemetary.
When I showed these photos to a guide from Mut, he insisted these weren't human bones...sorry, but that's a human skull.

Taken in the town of Mut, Dakhla Oasis, Egypt.

Well documented! It's quite interesting as well as emotional. Hard to believe that there are places like this.

A very extreme photo, it has undertones in its history that we may never find out about. Sounds like your guide wanted to stick to the text book.

Ton histoire est terrible mais la vie aiileurs est terrible aussi
Chacun fait comme il peut là ou il est née............
La photographie est un témoignage, il y a matière à faire un article

This is extreme! I've been to the old claytown of Mut as well, I didn't see anything like this though. It's true indeed, people are extremely poor out there. You might appreciate some of the photos I shot in Egypt. I also made a book on Egypt, visible through the link at my mainpage. Take care! -Menno

wow... this photo is really more then just telling a story. Nice!

This reaches beyond my ability to even start to comprehend the story that must be represented here. Who were these people? How were their remains treated in such a manner? I guess each fragment would have its own story. Daniel.

Very disterbing, great story on dispair.

It's heartbreaking to know there are children who have so little that they'd be happy with a skull as a "toy", while so many children complain they don't have the newest video game....
Excellant gallery. -v-
