in memory

passing Galiano Island

Galiano Island is named in memory of explorer Dionisio Galiano, who visited the area by ship in 1792, mapping it extensively for the Spanish government...it marks one side of Active Pass, a channel leading from the sheltered waters of the Southern Gulf Islands to the more open waters of the Strait of Georgia..

Could Galiano ever have imagined what 200 plus years would bring to this area?
Must be a lovely island with all those conifers bordering the waters. How lovely to sail around these parts.

I always thought it would be nice to live on Galiano Is. This is a beautiful shot, and brings back good memories again of taking the ferry from Vancouver. V
