Old School Museum - 1905

Crofton, BC

The Old School Museum was originally a one-room schoolhouse built in 1905 and it was used as a school until 1948. The restored Old School Museum, located on the waterfront near the ferry to Saltspring Island, now houses Crofton's historic artifacts and features displays of pioneer and smelter-town life. It also has an interesting section on the Crofton school with photos that trace the growth of a young man through his early school years until he reaches the position of principal at the local school. Note: Buildings of the 1904-1908 era were mining company buildings and all had the roof style displayed in this photo, after 1908 the roof design changed and a new style was adopted.

Our old schools never looked like that, but our old railroad stations did, probably from the same architects getting those contracts a century or so ago.

Great setting, it seems very early in its life to need restoration
