I remember the giant paint can well! I was fascinated by it as a kid in the '70s and '80s.

At the time of this photo, the adjacent storefront with the "tipping" paint can is O-Gee Paint which was owned by Al Duzic.

I grew up on the NW corner of 68 Ave and 39 Terr. My friends and I used to walk to this store and the others in the area.

We used to go into this hardware store and buy a coke when we had a dime. It was one of those old coke machines that you opened up and pulled the bottle out (from the vertical "stack".)

There was a Dairy Queen on the same side of Bird just a couple of blocks down the way the picture is facing but I'm not sure when that opened. Being born in '64, I wasn't old enough to get out and explore until the early '70(s).

This is Laurence Ronald Allenbaugh Sr.
My father Paul Allenbaugh and I bought the hardware store from Ervin & Mariam Cannon in 1957 at 6851 Bird Rd..Paul was killed in robbery Oct 1959. My mother Margie Allenbaugh & I owned store till 1962 when she sold her shares to Dan King.We sold store in 1968.I ran Locksmith shop in store till 1970.I left and started Allenbaugh Locksmith Service.My son Laurence Ronald Allenbaugh Jr. and I still own business in 2008.

The spilling paint can on the roof was there up until a couple of years ago. I am a 3rd generation miamian! My grandmother used to go to Sid's piano bar which was just east of here (Ludlam)

this is now a closed down funeral home thats boarded up. same building as in pic with some superficial changes. the lip across the front and the brick columns are still there.
