Michael I used to eat at your dad's place at least once a month. Good old fashioned BBQ. Thank you and your dad for those memories.

I can remember when the palmetto ENDED at Flagler St ! Flagler St. made a zig, at N.W. 72 Ave, then was a gravel road to the rock pits.

Just past the drive-in is the site of Tropical Park Khoury leagu fields. Spent 8 years playing baseball there.

So have to ask.. was the highway named for the tree or the bug? Since only one of the two moves from place to place, I have to wonder ;)

S...In either 8th or 9th grade at Ponce Jr. Hi, Probably 1959, One boy had failed enough times to be old enough to have a car...a white '56 Ford, cool. I know his name, but won't say it here. One night we all got in drove out to the weirdest phenomenum; The Palmetto ByPass...we got on at I think Bird Road, just after dark, on a weeknight...maybe 7:30 pm, and drove north...on a COMPLETELY DESERTED, EMPTY EXCEPT FOR OUR CAR, IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, BLACKTOP TWO-LANE DIVIDED ROAD!! We laughed and laughed...how foolish of the Gov't to waste money on this "Road to Nowhere" as we clalled it... Remember exactly, we drove all the way up to the " big curve" at Miami Lakes, exited, I guess at 67th ave, got back on coming the other way and drove all the way back to Bird Road WITHOUT SEEING ANOTHER VEHICLE! We laughed and laughed...stopped and peed in the middle of the road around Flagler street...sat down and drank a beer...no traffic at all...we kept repeating..."WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD EVER BE ON, NEED TO, USE THIS GOD-FORSAKEN ROAD TO NOWHERE...THE PALMETTO EXPRESSWAY....Yeah, right...try that now. Regards, S
