I remember all of the areas in the post below. I graduated from Miami Central in 69. I do remember Fun Land, I was so little, that the boat ride scared me. My oldert sister like to ride "The Bullet". I worked at a fabric shop in the North Side shopping center during high school. I also remember the 27th Avenue drive in, and the 87th St. Dairy Queen, my sister loved the chocolate blizzards. c.c. in referencew to your post. I also worked for Southern Bell as a long distance operator in the big building just around the corner from the Ranch House. This was probably around 70-72 after I graduated High School. I can't beleive you remember Larry's. It was right on 79th
St. in Little River just across the st. from the library. It was a bus stop for The Coast City Coast Buses. I still remember alot of those bus drivers. One guy was named Alabama and was the Uncle to one of the Bankston girls that I grew up with. When I was little we took the bus everywhere because my mom didn't drive. Larry was a tall thin guy with dark hair. They had a long counter and also booths. Larry's had the best hamburger's. It was a real treat if my mom could afford to buy us one. There was also a great bakery on the main street of Little River, closer to the Jewelry shop I bought my first gold earings and zodiac necklace there (on the law away plan), and The Little River Bank and Trust Company. It was where I had one of my first bank accounts. There was also a Rosavelt Theatre where we used to go to the movies. I have memories of the Burger King in N. Miami on N.W. 7th avenue around 135th street. When I was in middle school at Westview we went on a field trip there and I got a Jr. Whopper! I thought it ws the best thing I had ever eaten.
I love this site. So many memories! Thank You for such great work!

...broiled not fried, how does that sound. Burger King, Burger King, Burger King...
Whopper 39 cents, fries 15 cents, shakes 19 cents. No Titanic Super-Sizes or "healthy" choices. No advertising on their bags or cups. Sixty-second service!

Did the jingle end "Burgers and Fries, How does that sound?"

The first Burger King opened at 3090 NW 36th Street in 1954.

Does anyone know where the first burger king ever opened was located?

I remember the Ranch House (there's at least one left in west Hialeah) on 79th Street much closer to Little River on the north side of 79th. My girlfriend's mother worked there as a waitress in 1965/66. I don't remember Larry's though. Don

I worked at the little river telephone office at 79th street in 1965 and I would go to the BK for lunch. It was a great burger, also there was a Ranch House restaurant that a lot of co-workers would go together for lunch. I also remember a little place called Larry's. Does anyone remember those places.

This BK was the first job I ever had. I worked week-ends 1960-61. I lived in Miami Springs so I had to drive my 1956 Allstate Scooter to work and back. Wish I still had the scooter.

I used to live just behind the 27th Drive In theater & after this BK opened us kids would hike up to there every weekend for a wopper then go back up to 87th for a Dairy Queen - total costs 75 cents. The good ole days !!!

I remember this BK. And the McDonalds a few blocks east on 79th Street had those huge golden arches that rose up from the ground, over the store.

Does anyone remember "Big Burger" in Little River, near the canal?

Here's one you might remember. Can anyone finish this jingle from the 60s in Miami? "There's a Burger King close to you, buy a whopper order two, best burger buy for miles around.......
Sherry 12-Jan-2008 19:35
I worked there from age 15 - 17 (1960-1961) Made $ .65 per hr. The good ole days.

the bk is still there but its not the same building. newer building on same lot. bit of trivia.. this was the first BK in the chain to be owned by a black man. i used to eat here often when i worked in the area in the mid 90's and had some interesting conversations with the employees.

Royal Castle had not been built yet before Funland disappeared. In the aerial photo of the new Northside Shopping Center, you can still see the Frank 'n Bun in the photo but Funland was already gone. After the Frank 'n Bun disappeared the Royal Castle was built on their parking lot closer to the intersection. Don

So many pictures of this intersection, yet no pictures of Funland Park Amusement Park. The amusement park was behind the Royal Castle on 79th Street & 27th Avenue. It really resided on the west side of 27th Avenue, just south of 79th Street.

That Burger King is still there. So is the Royal Castle on the southwest corner of that intersection.
