1960 - West Hialeah featuring the Hialeah City Dump with text
West of Palm Springs, Hialeah, Florida
Dedicated to my buddy, Sergeant Norby Alvarez, Hialeah PD, who is amazed that they built all those apartments on top of an old dump in the mid to late 60s.
I grew up here from the late 50's, right about where the "W. 12 Avenue (Ludlum Road)" marker is pointing... 2nd house east from Ludlum, 45 Pl., on that canal. I remember the pasture south of the canal, and cows everywhere West of Ludlum - but it is still startling to see THIS much land still open all around there!
I still live in Hialeah. Sadly, though that HOUSE is still there, the TOWN I grew up in no longer exists...
Thank you so much for this site. I will be back to explore further!

"The dump is burning." And it smelled! Once in awhile we'd get a whiff of it...I guess it was the Hialeah dump. My mom wouldn't want to hang out clothes to dry during those times. I never knew exactly where it was...thanks for cluing me in.
