Charles Carter was being recognized for his past efforts to get the former Army Nike Hercules Missile Base HM-69 put on display at Everglades National Park, and for securing an old Nike Hercules missile from Anniston Army Depot for display at the site. Charles also arranged for the transportation of the missile to Miami. I helped him get the missile restored and repainted at the George T. Baker Aviation School through Lonny Craven, Manager of Airside Operations at Miami International Airport and Sean Gallagan, principal of George T. Baker Aviation School.
After the presentation all of the veterans and guests were escorted by park rangers to the missile launch site where they were free to walk around to look at the former missile barns and to see the restored Nike Hercules missile on display in barn #3.
