Thank you to Terry M. Duffy, HHS Class of 1975, for contributing this great old image of him sitting on his '57 Chevy in front of Publix #85 where he worked as a stock clerk. Terry went on to make a career with the Hialeah Fire Department and is now an instructor at Miami-Dade College North Campus at the Fire College.
Our neighbor and friend Dottie Lavallie worked at this store part-time for many years in the 1960's and 1970's as a cashier and in the Deli department.
This long-time Publix store was closed in 2006 after they and the developers of Palm Springs Mile failed to reach terms on a new lease. Publix opted to build a new Publix Sabor store on the northeast corner of W. 49th Street and 16th Avenue behind the former Firestone Tire store which has been rebuilt into a Verizon store and other stores. The Sabor parking lot and store extend northward to the east-west canal at W. 52 Street.
