1950's - a 1956 Studebaker Hawk in a minor car wreck in front of the Car Hop Drive-In featuring "Teleburgers" and "Teleshakes"
Red Road (57th Avenue) and Flagler Street, Miami, Florida
Thank you to Stan Meade for contributing this great old image. Thank you to Jeff Levine for identifying the location. Jeff believes that this photo was taken by Robert M. Kelley. Thank you to Mark Lincoln for identifying the car type. Please click on "original" below to see the image at the largest size.
I'd forgotten to note that the Car Hop was eventually purchased by Bernie and Seymour Paley and became their second "Big Wheel" location.
After the brothers had a falling out and went their seperate ways, Bernie became one of the first franchisees of Col. Sanders' Kentucky Fried Chicken.
This location became one of ten KFC restaurants Bernie Paley operated, and he pissed off Col. Sanders with a "Paley's" sign that was bigger than the "Kentucky Fried Chicken" one.
Don has images of some of the other Paley KFC's thanks to Stan Meade stumbling across some prints at a flea market that I'd originally provided to a friend. Those images were taken byb Wallace Clark of Springs Photo.
