Before the introduction of modern education to China,
study halls had provided education to children for hundreds years.
Students learnt moral standards and imperial examination related subjects
thru’ Chinese classic texts such as “The Four Books”,
“Three Character Classic” and “Analects”.
The teacher used a ruler-like wooden stick to hit the student’s head
if one failed to answer the teacher’s questions.
This kind of hit makes “bu” sound and
that’s why the Chinese call that kind of school “Bu Bu Zhai”
("Zhai" in Chinese means "school").
