Didn’t want to venture very far today, but there is a miniature railway nearby. OK, they were not running today, but I thought I mind find something to photograph on the station.
Well, there was!
Mac Fishereies was a fairly well known shop, and certainly in my part of the world was the only chain store just selling fish. I remember that by around 1970 we saw branches of ‘Mac Market’ as they realised there was no future for them if they just stuck to fish.
However, a few years later, the local Mac Market became an International Stores, who had also taken over the local Kibby’s supermarket. It was not long, however, that International Stores also succombed as the major supermarkets took their ground.
This particular sign belonged to their West Byfleet branch, a place where we did our shopping as a kid, and also the home of the Cawsey electrical store I portrayed last Sunday.

This time last year I was again reminiscing: ‘Days of Innocence’
