January 8 2005:
A Glass of Film

I’ve been following those who have been placing objects, such as eggs, in glasses. Perhaps meeting David Mingay yesterday inspired me to have a go at this. But I decided to take my props outdoors.

I imagine my neighbours are gradually building up this picture of me. Last week I was out well past midnight with my camera; today I walked out with some exposed film within a beer glass ~ who knows what they will think when I appear donning the promised ‘hairal’ accessory….

I actually took today’s shot at a very remote and exposed spot. This was important as the sun was low and also I didn’t want anybody around in particular. What I forgot to build into the equation was the fact that the whole country was being swept by strong gales and so the film did actually uncurl itself and leap out of the glass on several occassions….

Very creative! Don't worry about your neighbours too much, tho :-)

Very interesting image! Some people look at the glass as half full, or half empty, but in your case I think it's overflowing!

this is SOOOOO cool - don't know how I missed it.

Glass and film, two magical transparent things...

Very inappropriate indeed! Nice one Ray

This is great image, Ray. And wholly inapropriate!

ops, I didn't realize I was signed into my group account.. that last post was from me, sorry

great image! it's so strong I'd rather not see the frame on it (just personal opinion)..maybe beveled edge alone .. anyway it's awesome!

Yeah! but you certainly nailed it. Superb shot, Ray!

Wow Ray!! I love it. Great job!
The curves in the bottom of the glass and the film spiraling upward works nicely.

Nice work!

Ray, this is a wonderful shot. I can imagine how difficult it was in the high winds today. I love it.

This is really neat, Ray. I like how you have merged film and digital into one image! I think sometimes we - especially geezers like me - forget how important film was!

Oh! Very well done, Ray. I love the unfurling roll of negatives.

Ray, good idea and very well processed, I like the background you used it boosts everything up..

I am quite taken with this one Ray. A very creative and well done image. Even after your neighbors cart you off to the looney bin, I'll remember this one as a "framer."

Nice idea, Ray. I wonder how much longer negative will have that immediate resonance when people see it? Will it be 'iconic' forever?

Very nicely done, Ray. I like the setup, comp and the lighting. Got my vote.
