This pub and a church are the only facilities in this village, there being no school or shops. But its rural location, within easy reach of places such as Maidstone and Tonbridge make it attractive for commuters.
Excitement came in 1924 when a Farman Goliath, a very primitive airliner crash landed here on its way from Paris to London. However, only one person was injured and the aircraft was repaired to flying condition. However, seven years later it crash landed again, but at Marden, a village just a few miles away. No loss of life there either, but flying was perilous back then!
