19Oct06 Hornet - 14059

19 October 2006...This weeks Transglobal Thursday Fun-Challenge — "Catch a Smile!"... I've never looked this close at a hornet before - it is almost like they have two mouths... kind of a creepy - wicked smile... (though mine was pretty good when I found it out turned out!) the only reason the insecticide wasn't grabbed was due to a pane of glass between the two of us...

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
1/125s f/2.8 at 100.0mm iso800 full exif

Hornets usually are not agressive (at least not towards people), so no need to grab insecticide when you see one next time, even if there is no glass shield between you aund the insect. Great macro!

I love how metallic he looks with the b&w treatment - even more menacing. More of a sneer than a smile!

Glad for the glass to make it safer for this close an inspection.
I must agree: I think it is "sticking it's tongue out" at you and planning revenge later
Dan Chusid19-Oct-2006 17:48
Is that a smile or is it just sticking it's tongue out at you?
; )

First hornet smile I have ever seen.
But then again, I never look at a hornet this close either.
