Golden Syrup is very popular here too - on pancakes and even in baking too

Takes me right back to childhood when we always had tins of this around for spooning on toast, or for making treacle tarts and treacle puddings. In boarding school, treacle puddings were reserved for Friday nights, a highlight :-) VV

Don't forget Weetabix - drizzling this over the top was my fave brekky cereal for years. :-P

Is is Simply Syrup made from sugar? I use it to make Mojitos, but a different brand. Nice in B&W!!
Stephanie06-Mar-2012 11:54
What a beautiful tin! Is this similar to maple syrup or corn syrup or what? :)
Guest 06-Mar-2012 11:30
Interesting can of syrup... not a brand I have seen.. maybe this is corn syrup..

Lovely image from my childhood where many illicit spoons were dipped. There's still a can in our press, renewed for baking binges. The hard thing is making sure the lids and sides don't get sticky :)
Sheila06-Mar-2012 10:12
Yes the tins were the same when I was a child. It is the best syrup!
Fabulous on pancakes, fresh bread and butter, pancakes, toast, pancakes, French toast. Oh I love it!

Ann is right...and isn't it great some things can stay the same. Now you make the syrup dumplings, I'll bring the custard and cream....yummy indeed!

Apart from the weight these tins haven't changed for years I'm sure. I like the hint of gold tone.
