The October Another Hunt theme today was antiquity/old age or modernism/youth. I choose to make this photo of Carnton, a place from the antiquity of the old South. Carton fell into infamy by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
On November 30 1864 the Army of Tennessee, the last active army of the Confederate States of America, fought a very bloody battle that decimated it very near here. In five hours the Southern forces had 6252 causalities, more than they had in the two days of fighting at Shiloh. This old house became one of the main hospitals for the confederate wounded. There are still blood stains on the floors where the surgeries were performed. For an interesting read get the book "The Widow of the South" . The book is historical fiction, but does give a good feeling as to what it must have been like here on that day.
Here is a photo I made in the cemetery at Carnton last year.
