Andy said it mostly, you keep shooting Zak - please try not to let it get you down, head up and all that. Love this shot by the way... the way the line curves up and out of the frame.

So I leave the rest and say it once again: This has a fine point of view, looks more like a train than a row of trucks to me. Great shot.

You have been taking interesting pictures of the island for a while that show great observation and gentle humour. But always in an affectionate and inoffensive way. You have created a positive image for the Isle of Bute. One that gives the impression of a gentler way of life with a hint of old fashioned British eccentricity thrown in. It certainly made me want to visit, and indeed I did, several times. More power to your elbow, and your shutter finger.

Zak, as far as I know - not being a legal person - in Scotland you are allowed to take pictures of adults going about their business, provided they and you are in a public place. It is different if you try to make money by selling those pictures but, for non-commercial private use, such as sharing on PBase, there are no constraints. I would check that with your legal person who advised on the castle pictures. Then it is a case of stand your ground with the police if you wish. Perhaps the whole of the Scottish PBase group should come to Bute and take pictures of people. There can't be enough room in the police cells for us all. Keep up the good work Zak.

Yeah me too...I had never heard of The Isle of Bute until I stumbled across your galleries over 2 yrs ago...it was quickly added to my must see list as a result. Tell them I'm having second thoughts :>(

As the said person is running a business in that place to do with accomodation. I dont see his reasoning in this matter.
It was a bit of free advertising for him as far as I can see.
How small minded people can be.
It certainly does'nt help tourism (or indeed his business) thats for sure.
As afore said - I'd keep all the people pics up unless (which will not happen) someone was not happy about it.
I would'nt let a fool like that waste my day.
Coleen Perilloux Landry08-Oct-2006 04:35
Oh, and Zak, you are the greatest tourism draw Bute has--tell them I said.
Coleen Perilloux Landry08-Oct-2006 04:32
Oh, Zak, as the teenagers here say "that really sucks." Did you tell them to "bite me" after you removed all your pics. Big deal--what are they hiding in that castle--this retired policewoman wants to know.

What a bunch of toads. I've always viewed your shots as a sort of news blog. Some I adore, but none the less, newsy, ahem. Very disgusted with this change of events. Esme

I am very unhappy to hear this news and fully agree with all the earlier posts. In a word ... it SUCKS what they are doing to you!!!!
Pathfinder08-Oct-2006 00:39
Over here in the states, unless you are using it for advertising, you can pretty well post any picture of a person(s) unless you invaded their privacy to get it or in some cases extreme embarassment is created by the image. Same with property, if you aren't getting commerical gain, they can't complain much. I will see if I can put some up. Let's see if thier solicitor wants to travel a couple of thousand miles to discuss the situation with me. Do you have the latitude and longitude of the castle? I could get some nice satelite photos of it too I am sure.
Jackdad08-Oct-2006 00:02
sorry to hear you've had this bad experience, Zak. I for one am certain that all your photos are taken and posted online in good faith, and I hope that your local police (and whoever complained) were accepting of your good intentions. Occasionally we all come across people who are suspicious of photographers for whatever reason... Try not to let this bad experience spoil your enjoyment of your hobby. :-)

Super shot today Zak! Sorry to hear about the small town mentality of
your castle people after all you've done to promote your island!
Victoria07-Oct-2006 22:31
Initially, this is a fantastic capture , bad to hear the castle photos. Anyway you can foucs on the landscape, have a nice day :)
wernere0107-Oct-2006 22:10
If I ever come to Bute, I will do it the other way round. I´ll complain about you, if you don´t make a pic of me. To be honest, it´s a shame, Zak. Remember the feeling I had, when I had the first small confrontation like this a few weeks ago. Can only agree: Don´t let it bring you down! This pic has a great perspective. More like a complete train than trucks.
Pog Mahone07-Oct-2006 21:22
nice shot zak, tough break about the other pics
Sheila07-Oct-2006 21:03
Great shot!
Some castle owners have no class at all. I hope you left Prince Charles on, he won't mind being here.
Larry Ahern07-Oct-2006 20:36
Some people take ownership way too seriously. We are just a blink in time and ownership is a silly illusion ... Nice shot
JW07-Oct-2006 20:02
Aren't we lucky to live in a free country!

I'm appalled.

Personally, I think you've done more for Bute tourism than most. The Scottish Tourism Board should buy you a full Nikon outfit by way of thanks. As for the people pictures, I would put them back on the website unless an individual complains about their own image being shown.

Don't let the b*@!*$%ds get you down, Zak!!
Johnny JAG07-Oct-2006 19:43
I believe someone should report a certain castle owner for wasting police time.
Johnny JAG07-Oct-2006 19:41
Are they all on the way to build a high wall around an unnamed castle?
James Ross07-Oct-2006 19:14
you'll have to be careful not to step over the line again. ;-)
That's some traffic jam.
laine8207-Oct-2006 18:51
LOL @ Northie !!
Jim Ross07-Oct-2006 18:34
Breaker 10-4, we got a convoy... That song just popped into my head when i seen this one... :-)
Gary Winters07-Oct-2006 18:21
I love this pic. Then again, I love wide angle! :-)

Sorry 'bout your castle pictures, first I'd heard.
northstar3707-Oct-2006 18:14
Oh, and if that pic of me eating cake doesn't go I'll be alerting interpol.
northstar3707-Oct-2006 18:14
Tsk at them. This is quite a quirky pic. I like it!
