While most of the previous photos of the flood have been more general interest, today's is somewhat different. This girl had given birth to her little heifer close to the water's edge. Sufficiently close that the little one was caught in the sticky mud that seals the lake floor. Everytime she struggled she slipped further down the slope into deeper water. I went down to the shore as the mother stood helplessly by. My wellingtons were full of water when I reached the calf and began half lifting, half pushing the little one to dry land while trying to maintain my own footing.
Well we made it and her mother took her in. She cleaned and dried her and coaxed her to feed.
What a great start to the day!
