A nice new gravel parking area is at the corner of E Preston McDaniel Rd and Nine Times Rd. Right now all that's there is a gated old road that you can hike up. I didn't know what to expect, but was hoping for one of the views I had seen in photos from Nine Times. The road is mostly up and gains about 500' in elevation in a about 0.6 miles on it's way up to Cedar Rock Mountain. The first part of the road was cut into the mountain and I knew to look for trailing arbutus on the sunny side of the steep banks. Sure enough, there were a few plants that were a week or so away from blooming.
