Modernes, thailändisches Frühstück -- Modern Thai Breakfast at sister and brother-in-laws DSC_0439.jpg

Bangkok, Thailand

My sister in law, Terry Arnold in St. Louis would like to know what was for breakfast, so here's the description: Well, breakfast sometimes is no different from a typical breakfast in the U.S. But that day it was a little different, so it was particularly worth photographing. Starting at the plate right in front of me there are 3 things: (1) a piece of orange-colored piece of "loog plub" that came from Japan (but the name I gave is a Thai name since I don't know the Japanese name for it), (2) a carved, green piece of honeydew which may have been imported from the U.S. or some other temperate country or perhaps even locally grown, and (3) a piece of "Khanom Guichai," which is made of sticky rice and guichai, a Chinese vegetable. The word "Khanom" is, however, Thai, and I'm not sure the dish is really of Chinese origin. I used to dislike it as a kid but now I'm more open to a wider variety of foods. The other items on the table are: more pieces of fruit, coffee, water, toast, jelly, and soy sauce (for the Khanom Guichai).
