Feb 27: Time machine

I've had my head in this old camera mag. Facinating. From the golden age of the 35mm SLR

In the news, Canon introduce their new multimode AE-1 Program and Tamron are advertising their new 35-70mm compact macro zoom. Actually I quite fancy one of those now! Even more interesting are the dealer ads. Back in '81 you could just walk in to a shop and buy a brand new OM2n or FE complete with any selection of lenses t you fancy. None of this searching eBay stuff. Funny thing is that while those cameras now fetch 1/4 of their 1981 prices, the lenses cost as much now as they were new. Sometimes more! I'll have a black OM2n with 24mm f2, 35mm f2, 50mm f1.4 and 100mm f2.8 please.

I have a 'special' photo mag-cum-book from 1973 and what struck me was the apalling quality of reproduction. And of course it has its share of starlight filter photos and those using Vasoline. A kind of 'Life on Mars' lookback!

Man, I remember perusing those mags back then...
