Jul 7:No lens Rosie

There's a row of 8 lenses on the shelf. I couldn't decide which one to use. So I made a leeeetle hole in a piece of thick ally foil and used that instead. Yeah, I know. This has got to be the worst picture in the 500 or so in my PotD gallery. But without a doubt, it's the best one taken without a lens. And, I've taken a fair few pictures with a lens that aren't this sharp...

BTW, it's a great way to see how dirty your sensor is. Looks like there's a couple of planks of wood on mine...

You should try a pinhole as an external apperature on your lens. Last year I drilled a 1/4" hole in one of my lens caps and then taped a piece of soda can (pepsi) aluminum over the hole that had a pinhole in it. Using that method I tried various diameter holes as external apperatures for taking macros and got a very long depth of field with the smaller apperature diameters. Color and clarity suffered, but depth of field increased greatly. I stuck one of my fingers about 3 inches in front of the lens and had it in focus as well as trees 40 feet in the background. I was never able to get a really great photo, but I was amazed by the results.

i thought leeetle pinholes were equivalent to f22 or so, which -theoretically - should give you sharp focus, shouldn't it?? and all those extraeneous marks on the picture are the artifacts from your sensor??

cool! in highschool, we had to make pinhole cameras! they were so much fun :) i should do something with mine, except for the fact that i have no way of developing a photographic peice of paper! :P but the were really interesting to make, i had made mine from a box of tea bags!

Thats nothing I made my entire camera out of old washing up bottles, a door bell, a small bit of cheese and a cardboard cut out of George Bush. It didn't work of course.
