Mar 20: My New York pic.

This is my New York pic. It's Margaret Bourke-White's "DC-4 Flying Over Manhattan, 1939". I saw it on a greetings card a few years ago, and just had to have a copy of the poster version. Well, I tracked one down, bought it, and it sat around in a cardboard tube for ages, until Linda found it. While I was out, she sneaked into my house, stole it away and had it framed as a birthday present. That was before we were living together of course! It hung on the wall above the fireplace looking wonderful. Eventually, I sold the house and it doesn't have a home right now. I wish we could find somewhere for it.

For this photograph, I was after a gritty, contrasty look, with some motion blur to signify it's current state of homelessness, being moved from house to house, and room to room. The result is just what I wanted. I picked this one of the 3 or 4 attempts as I love the near sharpness around the plane and the Chrysler building.

I hope I'm not breaching copyright with this. I've tried to create this as a new image using only a very small and blurred section of the original.

OOPS . .sorry for the implication David . .I now recall that you try to make your pictures with no manipulations . . . so does that mena you twirled the poster as you shot, twirled the camera, or twirled you??? =)

She was the very first photographer I had ever heard of.

It would look really nice on my wall, if it needs a home......

Hey, not manipulation... all done in camera except conversion to b+w and added contrast! But you're right it needs somewhere to hang..!

Cool manipulation . .don't think there's a recognizable portion to call infringement . . .LOL @ Linda & how she snuck in . . .this beauty HAS to have a home. If there is an open space of wall ANYwhere this HAS to go there!

Boy, was I scared you'd think I'd taken liberties with your doorkey! I was very worried you'd take it off me and chuck me out....glad you didn't.

I thought you wanted to make Linda LESS tense about the whole thing!
